Recovering from Ike

Its an odd thing to have your home town turn into a disaster area... My back yard looks as if someone pulled out all the trees, put them in a blender and then dumped them back into the yard. The neighbor across the back fence ended up with a tree in his garage- it pushed the house off the slab, which pulled on the breeze way that connects to their house, which then cracked the brick veneer on the house. My boyfriend's parents house got four feet of water (which left behind and inch of mud, and destroyed a beautiful antique player piano) and a tree crushing their metal gate at the front of their driveway. My roommate, who's family lives in Bolivar, has no house left whatsoever.
So, for the last three days I've been doing intensive physical labor. I'm not used to doing intense physical labor... I'm sooo sore, and ill, too. But it could have been a lot worse, so I should be thankful. I'll have to work on that.
I'm going back to SHSU tomorrow, getting up early and driving there, and then spending the day studying everything I should have been studying for the last week.

HEY KIM!!! my house(parent's house) wasnt that bad, i had a few shingles down and LOTS of brances, and after 4 full days of "Hard physical labor" or however you put it i still havent gotten all the leaves and branches out of my back yard. IT'S A PAIN!! but is casey's house really that bad? Dang! and he lives close. but im glad to hear that your alright, with the exception of the sore-ness. If you ever want to catch up just call.

it wasn't casey's dad's place (thats the one in your neighborhood) it was his mom's place in clear lake shores... sorry you had so much to do! good luck with the last bit of work, and thanks for the comment, you're the first!

My parents have been going through the same thing. I wish I was there to help. My house only took on 6 inches of water, but all of our carpet, and most of our furniture is gone. The contractors said they will have to do a total gut job at my house, so we have to move everything into the garage. We still don't have power.

Have a safe trip!

Hey Kim! I'm glad that you're ok. I didn't get hit that bad, but you're right. It could have been worse. I hope that Ike didn't effect your school that much and that you get better soon! (If you're not already.) :)

hey kim! sorry about all that. the whole situation really sucks but at the same time its cool to see how the community always seems to come together after a devastation like that. it's like we all look past the social differences because we all have something in common. i don't know, it's just an observation.
well im glad that you didnt die! i really do want to hang out with you again sometime soooon.. :-)

EW. yeah, we evac'd to Plano and Alabama, making a pit stop in Mississippi. (My accent was hilarious. People had so much fun making me say stuff..) My dad stayed in town because he's on the vol. fire dept in Seabrook, so he saw most of the damage 1st hand. We are SOO BLESSED that we didn't have more damage- just water blown into the front 2 rooms through the front door and a few leaks due to shingles lost. (a window leaked, not sure how that happened, going to need to reframe it all..) overall only about 10k in damage, and no trees or anything. (very new subdivision, i think)

Love ya!
